Masters of ships before shipping seainen may

require them

(4.) The master of any ship, before shipping any sea- man, may require that such seaman shall be inspected by the Principal Civil Medical Officer, and the Principal Civil Medical Officer upon such inspection shall give a certificate under his band as to the state of health of such seaman, which certificate such senman shall produce aud show to the master of the ship in which he may be about to serve; and for every certificate there shall be paid the fee of fifty cents, to be paid by the master or agent of the ship in case such seaman should prove to be in sound health, and by the seaman himself, or the boarding-house keeper with whom he shall be residing, in case he shall prove to

There are some minor points in which amendment is desirable. For instance, the latter part of section 8 sub-section 4 needs some amplification so as to define more clearly the several liabilities of the seaman and boarding-house keeper referred to therein.
